Amex lounge us open6/30/2023 ![]() ![]() We had backpacks because we had been out all day. Large crowds moving in either direction, well before the security checks. We managed to get to the tennis for about an 18:15. We had to go away and find somewhere else to eat, well away from the stadium. We were told that we are not allowed in until 18:00. We arrived at the stadium approximately at 16:30 to get into the grounds to eat, drink and check out the stalls etc. We booked for the night session, starting 19:00. w/ the replays and commentary by John Mac etc. My friend may have missed some of those details since it’s easier to catch on TV esp. I would have expected more positive energy from his support group on the bleachers/seats. Contrary to that his opponents coach and trainer were more effective in pushing their player w/ a positive tone. If it was t for that one consistent fact it could have been a lot closer His Dad Christian Ruud had his arms crossed and didn’t do enough to encourage him by indicating for him to hit deeper and go in after his serves. yet that didn’t yield the results in the end that he desired. He was stronger on his serves w/ a slight edge. I think that over the course of the 4 setter if I had to pin point what made the difference was that Ruud played a mostly backcourt or baseline rally game passing the opponent on either flank w/ brilliant accuracy but lacked somewhat in the front court volley put aways, His shots overall lacked the depth he needed since a lot of his shots landed in mid court where Carlos could run it down and attack it for winners. Casper in the other hand was more composed and understated in his calm disposition. My takeaway from it is that they were evenly matched w/ Alcarez having a slight edge due to being quicker around the court and more aggressive all around. Watched the whole final on ESPN on my large screen TV. Carlos Alcarez (Spain) and Casper Ruud (Norway) the former being the younger took the court with somewhat nervous energy. Phenomenal face off between two very promising youngsters that could indeed measure up and dare to dream big. ![]() Both with a chance to be either number 1 or number 2 ranked in the world. Thus has resonated with both of us since the finalists were both first timers. ![]() However I sent a friend who’s never been to this epic event and asked him to give me his analysis of the mens finals. I’m going to say right at the outset that I could not make it to the Open this year, due to other pressing engagements. ![]()
